Summer Reading Suggestions

This year’s Adult Summer Reading Program is all about Escaping the Ordinary!

If you've already signed up to participate (or plan to in the future, there's still time), you may have noticed that our bingo card includes activities that fit the theme.

But if you’re struggling to find a book about a hero/someone you admire (real or fictitious) or a movie about an extraordinary person so you can finish a row and earn a raffle ticket, here are some suggestions for nonfiction and movie titles. (Feel free to add your own suggestions in the comments! Or let us know how your summer reading is going so far.)

Non-Fiction Titles:

Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman’s Search for Everything Across Italy, India, and Indonesia by Elizabeth Gilbert

The Greatest Generation by Tom Brokaw

Out of Africa by Isak Dineson

Secret Heroes: Everyday Americans Who Shaped Our World by Paul Martin

Superboys: The Amazing Adventures of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster—the Creators of Superman by Brad Ricca

Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed

Women Heroes of World War I by Kathryn J. Atwood (Atwood is also the author of Women Heroes of World War II)

Apollo 13

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Hundred Foot Journey

Erin Brockovich

Last Holiday

To Kill a Mockingbird

Roman Holiday **

Eat, Pray, Love **

180° South **

Into the Wild**

Cast Away**

Man on Wire**

Remember, these are just suggestions. You don’t have to read anything in particular. And don’t forget about audiobooks. Listening counts too!

**Each of these movies is being shown at the library as part of our Escape the Ordinary Film Series on Monday mornings. Check out our calendar for dates. (HINT: attending a library program is one of the squares on the bingo card, and these definitely count!)
