The Ultimate Sacrifice

For over 30 years, Tom Mueller has been writing about the men and women who have made the Ultimate Sacrifice. He first started writing as a world and new editor for newspapers and has more recently continued to write and publish his own books. His works span from the Civil War to Iraq and Afghanistan.

His interest in war history started in 1984 when he was on assignment in Europe. While abroad Mueller decided to visit his uncle’s grave in France. During his research to find out more about where his uncle had fought, he discovered that his uncle had been killed at the Battle of Normandy during the second day of combat, August 1, 1944.

After returning home Mueller continued to learn more and searched for every book he could find about the Breakout from Normandy. He began writing Memorial Day stories for his newspaper which has a circulation of more than a quarter-million copies. Eventually he published these stories and more as books.

Mueller will be at the library on Monday, November 9th at 7 pm. He'll be sharing some of his favorite stories, old and new, ranging from the Civil War to Afghanistan.

You can learn more about Thomas Mueller, his works, and war history at his website.
