Adult Coloring

Adult coloring has grown exponentially in popularity. Coloring books are popping up all over the place; the grocery store, Target, craft stores. You can hardly go out without running into the craze. In 2015, Quarto Publishing Group US sold 4 million copies and coloring books are continuous hitting the best seller lists on Amazon. There are many benefits to coloring. One benefit is to help de-stress in today’s busy world. Coloring can also act as a form of meditation. It can clear the mind and focus the art of coloring in the spaces. Mandalas and geometric shapes are often cited as the best for this. It can allow a person to be creative without having to create something on a blank canvas. Thus taking the pressure off of creating brand new art but still allowing one to express themselves.

It has also been hard to miss libraries jumping on the trend as well. It has become a relaxing social time for people to meet and express themselves artistically. The New Berlin Library has become one of those places. There is a 4 foot coloring community poster on the second floor near the Reference Desk. And their Adult Coloring Club meeting every 2 & 4th Thursday of the month from 1-4pm in the Business Room, coloring supplies are provided but artists are welcome to bring their own.

If you haven’t taken a few minutes to try this trend, stop by the library for examples.
