Family History: Fun & Fulfilling

There are many benefits to conducting genealogical research, aside from finding out more about yourself and your ancestors. It can help with organizational and critical thinking skills and improve inductive/ deductive reasoning. Yippee!

On top of that it can deepen family bonds across generations, as well as, reduce stress and anxiety. How about that?

If you want to pick up a new hobby and learn more about your family history, the library is a great place to start!

We have access to two great databases: Ancestry and Heritage Quest. Ancestry is a comprehensive online source of information for conducting genealogical and local history research. And Heritage Quest offers federal census information, family genealogies, local histories, and so much more.

If that seems like a bit much, and you just want a little information, consider stopping by the Community Room on February 21st at 11 am. Cindy Allgaier, of the Milwaukee Wisconsin North Family History Center, will be hosting a brief seminar where she’ll cover where to get started, the resources available to you, and the ultimate fulfillment that comes with family history research.

You can find links to both of these databases hereTake note: Ancestry is only accessible from a library computer.
