Be a Hero!

In conjunction with our Summer Reading Program theme, Every Hero Has A Story, the New Berlin Public Library Youth Services Department is collecting items for charitable organizations and writing letters/drawing pictures to our heroes!

Drop off locations will be in the YS Department of the library and outside the Community Room during our Tuesday and Thursday afternoon programs.

Groups that your donation will go to are:
June 8-20: Hebron House - Hebron House is an emergency shelter for men, women and children. Items needed include: Paper products, laundry detergent, hair brushes, spices, wrapping paper, and ibuprofen. A more detailed list can be found at the Hebron House website

June 22-July 4: Penfield Children’s Center - Penfield Children’s Center creates a positive start in life for infants and children, many who have developmental delays and disabilities. Items needed include: Door knob covers, board books, blocks (wooden or plastic), Leap Frog toys, and arts and crafts supplies. A more detailed list can be found at the Penfield Children's Center website.

July 6-18: HAWS - HAWS is a non-profit that assists over 6,000 animals each year. As an “open admissions” shelter, they accept animals regardless of age, health, temperament or breed. Items needed include: Clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, canned dog food, small rugs, dry kitten food, and catnip. A more detailed list can be found at the HAWS website

July 20-Aug 1: Thank our Heroes! Write a letter to your local police and fire department heroes! We are also collecting non-perishable food items for the New Berlin Food Pantry. The food pantry is located in the New Berlin Community Center. Pantry is open on Wednesdays. Drop-off is from 9:30-5:15 and pickup is from 12-5:15. Items needed include canned fruit and vegetables, spices, pasta, peanut butter, as well as other non-perishable food items.

Aug 3-15: Brooke Army Medical Center - Write a letter or draw a picture to a wounded soldier. Brooke Army Medical Center provides inpatient care, outpatient care, advanced rehabilitative services and troop leadership for military personnel. Learn more at the Brooke Army Medical Center website.
