Read to Rover

Read to Rover is starting up again this month. In January and February children will have the opportunity to read to Bo, Zaya or Annie. Wondering more about this program? Christopher, a 5th grade student at Wisconsin Connections Academy, wrote the following news story about Bo and our Read to Rover program:

School-aged children are invited to attend the Read to Rover program at the New Berlin Public Library in New Berlin, WI. Boys and girls can practice reading, and become better readers, as they read a book to a trained therapy dog named Bo. Bo is a kind and peaceful poodle who enjoys listening to children read. For example, he doesn’t bark at children if they mispronounce a word or miss a sentence in the book.

The Read to Rover program is held on Tuesday nights from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Youth Area. It starts on January 17, 2017 and ends on February 21, 2017. Children can choose a book from home, school, or the library to read to Bo.

Christine Weichart, Youth Services Librarian, believes Read to Rover is a wonderful reading program. She stated, “I think it’s good for kids who need practice reading. It’s a safe place for them to sit and read."

Read to Rover is open to all ages and registration is not necessary.  Each session is on a drop-in basis.  For more information or for the dogs’ schedule, contact the Youth Services Department (262-754-1814).
