1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program Coming in January!

The libraries in Waukesha County will be participating in a program called "1,000 Books Before Kindergarten." The New Berlin Library will kick off our program beginning on Monday January 13, 2014, which is also the start of our Winter storytime session.  Each library will run their program a little differently, but the goal is the same--to read to your little one and get them ready to start school.  It's never too early.

Beginning January 13, you can sign up for the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program in the Youth Services Department.  Upon sign-up, you will receive a folder, instructions, a bookmark, sticker, and reading log to get your started.  Log up to 25 books per reading log.  When one log is complete, come in for a new one!  Track your progress along with other children in our community.  There will be incentives along the way, free books and more!

This free program encourgages you to read 1,000 books with your child before he or she enters kindergarten - a goal experts say helps children learn to read.  Reading together helps develop important pre-reading skills that provide a solid foundation to school and learning success.  Plus, sharing stories together is fun!
