Around Town: 4 Ways the Library Shows Up in the Community

While our vision here at New Berlin Public Library is to be a vital community destination open to everyone, we also strive to get out into our community to provide various library services, materials, and resources - bringing the library to YOU.

Since we aim to serve our entire population, we recognize that there are some people who may be unable to access our location due to physical limitations, or others who may simply be unaware of all the we have to offer here at the Library. This is why we regularly show up at community events, partner with local schools, and visit our senior living areas and clubs.

Read on to learn about a few of the ways that the Library shows up around town!

1. Home Delivery Program

The New Berlin Public Library provides monthly home delivery of materials to New Berlin residents who are not able to visit the library in person. Let us bring your favorite books, movies, music and more right to your door! Call the New Berlin Public Library at 262-785-4980 to sign up! The application takes just a few minutes.

If you want to know more or are interested in volunteering with this program, click here to visit this page on our website!

2. New Berlin Senior Citizens Club

A librarian visits the Senior Citizens Club once a month to keep their group up to date on any library happenings and programs. In addition, our director goes monthly for the Senior Center Book Club! The book club continues to grow and currently has around 15 regular readers. They gather to laugh and learn together around popular fiction titles, and it's nice to share a reading history together. 3. School Visits

The Youth Services Department connects with students both at the NBPL and out in the community through school visits and field trips held throughout the year. When classes come to us, young children enjoy a storytime and a guided tour of the Youth Services Department as a welcoming introduction to everything the library has to offer.

We also bring the library to the students! Our Youth Librarians regularly visit area elementary schools and daycares. These visits might include themed storytimes, library card sign-up information, or a preview of the upcoming Summer Reading Program.

4. Community Programs

We participate in a variety of external community programming throughout the year! The outreach program coming up soon is Safety Saturday and Touch-A-Truck on May 16th from 9AM-1PM. This event features many organizations from all over New Berlin – come find us at our booth to say hi! Click here to learn more about this event.
