Trying to find materials to check out online can be daunting, especially with a new catalog. So here are some steps on how to find what you are looking for with our new catalog and our website.
Online Catalog
To start using the online catalog, go to newberlinlibrary.org/catalog, or click on "My Account" in the top right corner of the library website. Below, we are focusing on a few quick tips. A full tutorial on the new catalog can be found on our catalog info page.
Filtering
Want to just see what items are available only at New Berlin Public Library? Use the filter!
- After searching for the materials you want, head to the filters on the left hand side, under "Refine Results."
- Scroll down to "Owning Library," check the box next to "New Berlin Public Library," and select "Apply." Your current results will now be filtered to New Berlin!
Tip: If you are doing multiple searches, select the lock icon next to New Berlin Public Library. That way you won't have to filter your results after each search!
How to Place Holds
You found a book you want to read! Now you need to place it on hold. Here's how!
- Make sure you have the correct format selected (Book, Large Print, Audiobook, etc.)
- Click on "Place Hold by Edition" to choose between paperback, hardcover, audiobook type, etc.
- Select "Place Hold" to the right of the correct edition.
- A window will pop up saying "Where Will You Like To Pick This Up?"
- The pickup location will already have New Berlin Public Library selected, or you can change locations if needed.
- Select "Confirm Location." Now it is on Hold!
Tip: If you want to have this hold for a later date select the "I Don't Need This Item Before" box and add the date for when you would like to have the hold request go through. This is great for if you are out of town and would like put an item on hold, but don't need it ASAP. You can freeze, also known as suspend, your holds by going to your Holds on your account, clicking the arrow next to "Cancel Holds," and selecting "Freeze." This keeps you on the holds list, but the book won’t be sent to you until you unfreeze it.
