Summer is in full swing and while we want you to get outside and enjoy the weather, we have lots of fun things to keep you busy this summer at the library! From reading challenges to exploring the community on one of our bikes, we have some fun in store for everyone of all ages.

How Do I...
Borrow items from the Library of Things
Did you know The New Berlin Public Library is home to more than just books? In fact, we house a few different special collections here. One of which, is our amazingly diverse Library of Things collection! Our Library of Things collection features anything you could think of like bicycles, musical instruments, costumes, sports equipment, fun games for outdoors, technology, art materials, and even a bubble machine! All of the items in our Library of Things collection are available to check-out by our patrons.
To check out Library of Things items in-person at the library, follow these quick and easy steps:
- Locate and grab the tag of your desired item. You can find these on the 1st and 2nd floors of the library.
- Bring the tag or item name to the Circulation desk, so staff can check to see if the item is available today for you.
- If the item is checked out, staff can help you place a hold on the item.
To request Library of Things items online:
- Search or browse our online Library of Things catalog for the item of your choosing.
- Once you have located the item you'd like to check out, click the blue "Check it Out" button below the item.
- Log into your NBPL account if you have not done so already and place the item on hold.
- You will receive a text or email when your requested item is available for pickup.
Library of Things tips:
- Reminder to please review the item description and check out times as they all differ between items in our collection.
- You must have an active and up-to-date library card with no fees to check out Library of Things items.
- Most items in this collection require a signed waiver by the patron.

Delaney, one of our Youth Librarians, is currently reading 5,203 Things to Do Instead of Looking at Your Phone by Barbara Ann Kipfer. She really wants to make the most of her summer and is trying to be more intentional with her time rather than spending it on her phone. Whether you read it all the way through, or pick a random page to pass the time that day, you're bound to uncover new and unique ways to spend your time off your phone this summer!

Steve Girman, MS - Curriculum and Instruction, has over 30 years experience performing school assemblies and library programs. His program combines juggling, magic, story-telling and sing-alongs. All elements of his program include the audience in a way that keeps them entertained and engaged.
Steve is an experienced early childhood educator and applies skills from his profession to keep the show moving with audience participation while teaching the values like education, hard-work and respect.
