Take a Look Inside the Library’s MakerStudio!

What is the New Berlin Public Library MakerStudio? In the last several years, if you've visited our library, attended our programs, or seen our newsletter and marketing, you’ve no doubt heard that name and location more than a few times. If you haven’t had a chance to explore this dynamic space recently, we’ve made some changes! And, you’re in luck because this post will give an overview and digital tour.

Our MakerStudio is a beautiful room on the second floor of the library that serves as a collaborative space for people to get creative with DIY projects, explore new designs and crafts, and share skills and ideas. Primarily supplied through donations, our MakerStudio offers supplies and communal resources like cutting machines and craft tools.

Recently, we were able to add new equipment like a Cricut machine, sewing machine, button makers, and more. Within our community, the need and use of this creative space has gained momentum and become increasingly popular. We love that we can help our patrons create, invent, and learn in our space designed for hands-on creativity.

Tour

Upon entering the MakerStudio, you will notice floor to ceiling shelves next to the fireplace. These shelves hold bins of supplies and tools, organized by type. They also house some tinkering toys like Lego bricks, wood blocks, magnet tiles, and more! You can also find recycled materials and resource books on these shelves as well. Next to the East entrance, you will notice a cart with many drawers. These drawers hold our most popular resource, paper! Many of our patrons enjoy using this paper on the Ellison Die Cut and the Sizzix Cutter found in the corner nook of the room. All of these materials and tools are open to use any time the MakerStudio is open.

Using the MakerStudio

The equipment, resources, and supplies in the MakerStudio can be used during our Open Studio Hours. In 2025, we transition to include daily “All Ages Studio Hours” and “Adult Only Studio hours”. During the adult-only hours, the studio is open to patrons over the age of 18 to use the studio and check out reservable equipment. View our current schedule on the MakerStudio page here.

Equipment Reservations

Another recent change made to the MakerStudio is the addition of reservable equipment. These items are able to be used in the MakerStuio during open hours. Examples include a Cricut Machine, sewing machine and tools, button makers and more! This equipment requires the user to have a library card in good standing. Learn more about getting a Library Card here! Some of our equipment (like the Circuit Machine) requires training before use. If you are interested in reserving our equipment but have not taken training on it, you can email our MakerStudio coordinator to set us a time to do so. Once you have taken the required training, you can reserve the equipment any time it is available.
