The Library Is for Everyone

May is Global Accessibility Awareness Month, so we're highlighting a few features and resources we provide to help make the Library more accessible and to support those with disabilities, Alzheimer's, and Dementia.

Last year, all Library staff members went through Dementia-friendly training with the ADRC. Through this training, staff learned how to recognize, respect, and support individuals with Dementia who are seeking library services. We are proud to be recognized as a Dementia-friendly facility and strive to be safe space for all.

Hearing loops are installed at all public desks (Youth Services, Adult Reference, and Circulation) as well as in the Community Room. Hearing loops allow those with hearing aids or cochlear implants to receive sound directly to their device.

Our Memory Care Collection contains a selection of puzzles, activities, books, and games especially designed to support those with memory loss or Dementia. You can view this collection in our catalog here.

We are proud to be part of the Purple Springs Memory Café Project, which facilitates monthly informal social gatherings for those living with early-stage memory loss and their care partner. Our Memory Cafe meets on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 1:30 PM, rotating locations between the libraries of Mukwonago, Eagle, Muskego, and New Berlin. Less by Andrew Sean Greer

Sara, one of our Circulation Aides, just finished Less by Andrew Sean Greer. She enjoyed following the character on a piece-meal trip around the world that he takes to try and run away from his problems. Of course, they only follow him and he gets into all sorts of odd situations.
